Introducing Bella

Zeke has been lonely without his sister Bug, so we got him his own dog :) When we reached out to Green Valley Kennels Colorado (the same breeder where we found Bug), and they happened to have a recent litter with a girl available. So we all piled in the car just like we did nearly 13 years ago and drove to pick up our new puppy, a black Goldendoodle.

Introducing Bella. Her full given name is Ms KevinBellaBacon. And when you pronounce her full name, it sounds as if it is spelled, all one name, all in one breath. We call her “Bella”, our little bacon bit.

Are you wondering where on earth that name came from?! It’s quite a story. Years ago we had a little neighbor girl who had a crush on our son Caleb, he was a few years older and she really liked him. She also really liked the name Kevin. One day she proclaimed (in a determined sassy five year old way) that she was going to call him Kevin. And she did.

Recently we met a dog named Kevin, which reminded us of that story. We thought Kevin was a great name for a dog and decided that we would name our next dog Kevin. But when we met our puppy, the name didn’t quite fit. We tossed around some names, Bella was suggested and it simply fit. Somehow we got talking about how we had thought of Kevin but it wasn’t quite right. Then we tried Kevin Bella and Bella Kevin. Someone said “Kevin? Like Kevin Bacon?” Then we got talking about the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon. Then my sister in law said Kevin Bella Bacon and when you run the names together it has great flowey rhythm: KevinBellaBacon.

As I was telling my BFF about the name, she said “whaaaa?! Guess what other name my parents were thinking of naming me before I was born? Kevin! Dale was Bug’s namesake (remember this earlier blog post: I dreamt that I was walking through rooms looking at things written on paper, none of which were decipherable, in fact, they were kinda doodle scribbles, but in one room a name was written on the wall “DoodleBug Dale”.  The doodle part makes sense (she’s a Golden Doodle), Dale is the name of my BFF, and Bug...well I’m not sure where that came from, but that is her name. DoodleBug Dale. We call her Bug and we love her.) Clearly Dale is partly Bella’s namesake as well.
